Healthy Homes: Practices for Improving Indoor Air Quality and Health of Occupants in Residential Construction

11:00 AM - 12:30 PM Wednesday, March 12

Session Chair: Naomi Mermin, Naomi Mermin Consulting
Session Speakers:
Greta Eckhardt, AIA, LEED® AP, CSI/CCS, PhD, Shepley Bulfinch Richardson & Abbott
Naomi Mermin, Naomi Mermin Consulting
Bill Walsh, Healthy Building Network

Americans spend 90% of our time indoors - most of it in our homes. Poor indoor air quality in homes can be linked to increasing rates of asthma and other health problems. This session will identify design features and materials critical to achieving a healthy home environment. We will focus on affordable practices that protect health, while supporting energy conservation and durability. Practical solutions from real world examples of healthy homes will be presented.

Nuclear Power is Not the Answer to Climate Change; Pathway Out of Nuclear Dependency

2:00 PM - 3:30 PM Wednesday, March 12

Session Chair: Marilyn Strong, Solar Design Associates, Inc.
Session Speakers:
Linda Gunter, Beyond Nuclear
Sally Shaw, Indy Activist

Linda Gunter will unravel the myth that nuclear power is an answer to climate change by documenting the actual carbon trail from uranium mining to decommissioning and storage of nuclear waste. Sally Shaw will argue that finding a pathway to energy independence and out of nuclear dependency will take concerted citizen participation in the process of retiring existing reactors and replacing them with efficiency and renewables.
